Hans Zimmer. Klaus Badelt. John Williams. Robtoch Koch. There’s a chance you’ve never of these artists before, but the same can’t be said for their music. The iconic Star Wars theme was from the wonderful head of John Williams. The mind-boggling music behind Inception is thanks to Hans Zimmer. All of the artists mentioned specialize in instrumental music and even if you don’t listen to them in the daily, there’s absolutely no denying the beauty and influence of the music they make.
Many people choose to listen to instrumental music over ones that have vocals. Maybe it’s the fact that we learn to appreciate the arrangement more or simply because it allows us to concentrate or relax. No matter what the reason, fans of instrumental music are sure to love this cover of “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen. Blessed by the power of two cellos, it’s unlike anything you’ve heard of before.

For anyone who doesn’t know, “Hallelujah” is a song written by Canadian singer Leonard Cohen. It was initially released in 1984 to only mediocre success at the time. Fortunately, the track found itself in the charts again thanks to yet another recording by the late Jeff Buckley.
“Hallelujah” rose in popularity after being featured in the film Shrek in 2001 as well. Since then, many other arrangements have been recorded for albums and concerts — this by 2CELLOS being one of them.
Of all the “Hallelujah” covers out there, this one is beautifully unique. And the whole experience is taken a step higher thanks to the video’s amazing visuals. Surely both Leonard Cohen and Jeff Buckley would have loved it.
This isn’t the first time 2CELLOS nailed a cover. In 2011, the duo — consisting of Croatian cellists Luka Šulić and Stjepan Hauser — released their first video: A rendition of Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal.” The clip became a viral hit, having amassed 830 million views on YouTube over the years. Other notable covers by 2CELLOS are “Thunderstruck” and The Pirates of the Carribean theme.
The comments are all praise for 2CELLOS as well. “The most beautiful rendition of Hallelujah I’ve ever heard, 2Cellos really know how to capture the beauty of a song,” one commenter wrote. “The sound is so pure and calm. The neck twitching is majestic. My eyes started to water,” another read.
Talk about talent! Don’t forget to catch this dynamic duo pay tribute to one of the greatest songs of all time.
